Youth Psychiatric Services

Inpatient Youth Services Young people often experience stressful situations that they respond with behaviors that are harmful to themselves or to others. The Brynn Marr program provides children and adolescents with the opportunity to learn more effective coping skills to deal with life situations. Inpatient services emphasize acute, short-term, and structured treatment with close family involvement and follow-up care.
Brynn Marr Behavioral Healthcare offers inpatient programs for children and adolescents who suffer from severe emotional problems, mental illness, and developmental disabilities. Our programs implement a therapeutic approach towards behavior modification, helping the child learn responsible behavior.
Our Schedule
Our programs follow a therapeutic schedule including the following:
Individual Therapy One-on-one therapy sessions between the child and a master’s prepared therapist.
Family Therapy An integral part of each child’s treatment with a focus on family systems and developing of effective ways of living together.
• Group Therapy Small group meetings between children and therapists to discuss and learn about feelings, self-esteem, conflict resolution, depression, and how to improve coping skills.
Adjunctive Therapy – Group and individual therapy in our campus gym, music, arts and crafts room, horticulture garden and challenge ROPES course with qualified adjunctive therapy staff.
Chemical Dependency Assessment, Education, and Treatment Dual diagnosis services are offered to adolescents who have issues involving substance abuse. A separate schedule within the adolescent program is offered, where youth work closely with a substance abuse counselor.
Play Therapy The childrens program features play therapy where children may experience and discuss their feelings through play.
Upon admission, each child/family member completes a questionnaire to aid the the treatment team with clinical assessments, treatment planning and client diagnosis. Prior to discharge the questionnaire is again offered, in order to gain valuable outcome information, in an ongoing effort to improve treatment interventions.
Our Staff The inpatient youth services staff is comprised of each child or adolescent’s Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Therapist, Adjunctive Therapist, Developmental Disabilities Specialist, Nurse Consultant and Chemical Dependency Counselor. In addition, nursing staff and mental health workers are available. Finally, the team offers a Case Manager, a Program Facilitator, a Nurse and a Program Director who provide round-the-clock care and work with parents and referring professionals to ensure that communication needs are met. Brynn Marr practices an interdisciplinary approach to provide the best possible care for the youth served.
Admission Criteria If a child is experiencing dramatic changes such as the demonstration of suicidal/homicidal ideations or gestures, and outpatient treatment has not been effective, a hospital treatment program may be warranted. The Brynn Marr Helpline's Assessment Center Staff are available to assist parents and referring professionals to find the most appropriate level of care in our continuum of youth services, or to locate appropriate local resources should a Brynn Marr service not best meet the needs of the child.
